Body image is the way you think and feel about your body and appearance. It includes the pictures of your body that you have in your mind, which may or may not be the same with your body’s real look. There are both negative and positive body image
A positive or good body image is feeling happy and satisfied about your body, as well as being comfortable with the way you look and accepting it. A positive body image is an important part of high self-esteem, this can help you think and feel good about yourself and your body. You can develop a good body image by accepting yourself the way you are, redirecting your energy on other positive things about you and facing reality. You need to know that people are born with differences in appearance and physical abilities. These differences are what make us unique.
A negative or bad body image is when you dislike your body or some parts of it. This may be because of what you see, hear or feel around you. People who feel like this sometimes want to change the way they look or some parts of their bodies. A bad body image can affect your life while growing up and even later in life, it can affect you and how you relate with people around you. When you always feel bad about yourself, you will no longer have value for yourself. Having a good or bad body image if influenced by some factors which includes family members, friends, environment, cultural background and the media such as television, music videos, adverts and Facebook etc.
